Thoughtless mumblings recited by the faithful at mass is generally the norm. Such mumblings are unacceptable, for we are called to be a people of joy, thus there should be a passion, a reverence, and a particular kind of enthusiasm that should flood forth in abundance during every mass. For mass is not boring, unless ones soul is blind.

Today’s ash wednesday mass, the priest tells us that when we go to receive the ashes, don’t stick out our tongues. ROFL.

People are wishing one another “Happy Valentine’s day” today, I wonder why no one greeted one another with “Happy Bernardette’s day” last Saturday, or a “Happy Stephen’s day”.
To put a catholic, non-commercialised perspective of this Saint’s feast day, check out this page on St Valentine.
I was sharing with a friend of mine today that I think the essence of valentine’s day is that we celebrate the love (if we do have) with the other half. This love, I think, is not an ordinary secular love but a Christian love, that even in the midst of obstacles (in St Valentine’s case, persecution) they continued to strive to love in a Christian way and this love does not constitute buying ridiculously expensive things for the other person.
(Sorry, this is the Singaporean in me to make the following comment.) Roses to Valentine’s day is like bak kwa to Chinese New Year)
This is not a just rant on how guys’ discourses of “everyday should be a valentine’s day not just today” yada yada. Guys, in a way what you are saying is true, but I’m not talking in terms of getting gifts and treating your other half in a special way, I’m talking about loving her the way God loves her and intends you to treat her in a a (Christian) loving way.
I’m not ranting once again, it’s a lament on how so commercialised a humble feast day of a saint has become.
So once again, Happy St Valentine’s Feast Day to one and all!

Sometimes i feel like a terrible person. But then i’m like HOLD UP. God loves us sooooo much that he gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Every confession is a chance to start over. Confession isn’t just some excuse to keep sinning, as some people who don’t understand Catholicism think….
